Srinivasan Subramanian, CoFounder at Unvired Software India Pvt Ltd

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business?

Srinivasan Subramanian : I was heading the Mobile Development at SAP Labs India and working with customers who were implementing SAP mobile. Together with a couple of my colleagues (Anup Alex and Praveen Kale) we started Unvired to simplify SAP mobile for customers. Initially we focussed on implementing SAP mobile and gradually developed an SAP Mobile product ourselves. We now have an SAP certified solution for digital that can be used to build mobile apps, web apps and bots.

Great Companies: What are the various products and Services provided by Unvired Software India Pvt Ltd

Srinivasan Subramanian : Unvired is a Digital First products company. We specialize in building products for SAP S/4 Hana modules Plant Maintenance, Sales & Distribution, CRM etc. We have an SAP certified platform on which we build and deploy these apps for customers. We also build web apps and bots on the same platform.

Great Companies: What makes Unvired Software India Pvt Ltd different from hundreds of other Software Products Companies?

Srinivasan Subramanian :

We have a cost effective solution that just works. Our implementation time is a week or two (for products) and this helps customers to go live quickly. The second aspect is the razor focus we bring into our products for mobile and web with SAP. And lastly the after sales support we provide endears us to our customers.

Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face?

Srinivasan Subramanian : Being a product company and not indulging in typical software services is the route we chose to take. That’s a hard one for a bootstrapped company based out of India. While the network of customers we knew helped us initially, that would not help us achieve growth. To achieve that we incorporated in the US a few years ago and also hired a professional CEO Alok Pant to head our sales and strategy.

Enterprise sales is a tough nut to crack but can be rewarding once you are able to do that and this is exactly what we are doing. The other main challenge is to attract the right talent, nurture them and motivate them to have a career with Unvired. We are proud that many of our Managers are those who joined us a freshers and have grown to responsible positions today dealing with customers, delivering applications and enabling additional sales with them.

Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for Unvired Software India Pvt Ltd?

Srinivasan Subramanian : We are investing in our range of products continuously. Innovation is the key to our growth and to that end we have invested in building out a No-Code platform. Today using the Unvired TurboApps builder one can design micro applications, connect them up to enterprise systems like SAP, Microsoft, Oracle etc without having to write any code. We are also investing in machine learning and analytics and providing outcome based solutions to customers. We believe that these innovations will help us grow continually.

We are not looking at what we will be in 5+ years or any such timeframe related goals. What we realise is that there is a market opportunity to provide the kind of solutions we do and that needs continuous innovation which is our focus. If we deliver on our goals and vision we believe that growth for Unvired to be a major player in this space is achievable.

Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

Srinivasan Subramanian : Starting up is not as romantic as its made out to be. I would personally ask people who are interested in starting out or have recently done so to not only read and get motivated by people who raised money or made millions but also focus on what the thousands of smaller companies and their founders have done to survive and grow in this market. While successes of the nature of a Flipkart or Zomato are few and far in between, there are any number of companies who are successful in a much smaller scale and many which have failed. These offer great real life experiences for people to learn from and aspire to become the next big thing.
