GREAT COMPANIES: WHAT PART OF THIS WORK FASCINATES YOU?
SAUGATA CHOUDHURY: In interior design, all parts of interior design are extremely imperative and has to be well thought through and planned starting from design to conceptualization to execution. However, my personnel fascination is with design and conceptualization as it sets the foundation for great work. Creation of a great space starts with an idea and concept in the mind and then it’s put into creation and I think that’s the most challenging as well as satisfying aspect of interior design. For me it’s like virtually narrating a story to my client.
GREAT COMPANIES: DO YOU ADMIRE THE WORK OF ANY OTHER DESIGNER? Saugata Choudhury : Well, there are many but more than being an admirer, I believe that I create design mainly from the customer end requirements standpoint. Lot of my thematic inspiration from various popular interior design styles and often blend different elements from different styles to create drama in the design.
GREAT COMPANIES: HOW MUCH IS YOUR INVOLVEMENT WITH THE CLIENT WHILE
CREATING THE DESIGNS?
Saugata Choudhury : My involvement with the clients is 110% as I understand that every new project that I undertake is an opportunity to create something that is both extraordinary and exclusive within a design that is functional, practical and smart for the end customer in
mind. As they say, “customer is the king/queen” so I ensure to handhold the customer to understand their requirements and manage each stage of their project with complete sensitivity to what is it that the customer requires so it is indeed a carefully coordinated effort to ensure enhanced customer experience as the end goal.
GREAT COMPANIES: THERE ARE VARIOUS DESIGNS LIKE TRADITIONAL, MODERN,
SCANDINAVIAN AND OTHERS. WHAT TYPE OF DESIGN DO YOU PERSONALLY LIKE?
Saugata Choudhury: My personnel preference is to work with natural elements like wood, stone etc. I believe that natural elements exude something that is timeless and elegant and that work very well in modern environments as well. Also, I like creating things that are going to last. I like quality and I like producing quality designs and themes that will be around for a long time and last those changes in trends. As, I mentioned earlier, I often blend different elements from several decorating styles together, but to my opinion it’s crucial to identify the core aspects of each one in the overall scheme of things.
Great Companies: EARLIER YOU WORKED IN THE CORPORATE WORLD AS A
MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT. WHAT MADE YOU SWITCH YOUR FIELD?
Saugata Choudhury: Well, I’ve been a self-taught artist, sculptor and designs/patterns have always fascinated me all through my life. I found my inner calling to follow my creative path and about half a decade back when I renounced corporate slavery & started InterioScape in pursuit of my inner calling and the rest is history! My management consulting experience has helped to approach my business in a more structured way and currently also investing in a tech platform to make the operations much more seamless and robust.
