Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
Sagnik Ghosh: The idea of WorqHat mostly revolves around a problem that even I had faced. I was passionate about programming when I was about 14-15 years of age. Now, when I was in my 2nd Year of Computer Science Engineering, and I was completing some courses from an Online Platform, I realised that I came up with a lot of questions, and I wanted to contact someone, maybe even a senior, to help me with my doubts. Also, the cost of Education has been rising daily, so I wanted to build a platform where students could connect with mentors, educators, industrial professionals and even their peers, who can act as a support for the student throughout his University Journey.
Great Companies: What are the various Services provided by WorqHat
Sagnik Ghosh: WorqHat is an Online EdTech Marketplace that uses a Networked Approach to Shift Focus from Teaching to Learning and building a better-prepared workforce as per industry expectations, university students with better employability & better preparation for the future. We believe that it is easier to Learn a Subject when you Live, Work and Earn from it. We have released the platform for Early-Access Program, and it is available for you all to try it out. Through WorqHat, University Students can connect with Mentors, Educators, Industrial Professionals and even their peers from universities across the country, for clearing their doubts, getting academic guidance, and even they can host a community meetup, where people having the same interest can meet online and discuss their ideas. University Students can even get feedback on their college projects from industry professionals and other educators as well, and if an Industry likes the project then they can either purchase it or the student gets a chance to work with that industry on both a long and short term basis. We are assisting a student in University throughout his 4/5 year journey through constant guidance and mentoring by people who have walked on that path before.
Great Companies: What makes WorqHat different from hundreds of other EdTech Firms?
Sagnik Ghosh: There are approximately 993 universities and more than 50,656 colleges, and almost 80 million university students are pursuing multiple courses at any point in time in India. Most of the EdTech companies in the higher education sector are teaching through Pre-Recorded Video Lectures and coaching students to build more and more projects but they have very limited one-to-one doubt clearance/guidance & Mentoring session and students are unable to get feedback on what they are doing.
We are building WorqHat as a platform only for the University Students & Fresh Graduates – A credible source of displaying their skills and knowledge as they need more exposure and better accountability of the skills. Now students don’t only learn while they are in University, but they now have a platform that can assist them in sponsoring their treats and coffees as well.
Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face?
Sagnik Ghosh: So being a university student and a Start-up Founder at the same time has challenges of its own, and it’s like, people generally have one life that stresses them out, I have two of them. Sometimes, it is a challenge, balancing both University coursework and running the daily operations at WorqHat, but there’s a thrill in doing it as well.
Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What do 5 years down the line look like for WorqHat?
Sagnik Ghosh: As I mentioned before we are in the Early Access Program right now, and at WorqHat, we are taking it one day at a time right now. We look forward to making a mark each day, taking this organization a step forward. Five years down the line, we look forward to expanding across the whole of Asia, as one of the most prominent EdTech platforms, helping transform the lives of millions of students. We want to take WorqHat to a position where Students can share their WorqHat profile as a credible source of their skills and knowledge.
Great Companies:If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting, what would it be?
Sagnik Ghosh: The one piece of advice that I would give is that being a student Founder is a tough journey, and I would say that Start the business for all the right reasons. Some of the right reasons being - You feel for the cause, you feel for the topic, you are passionate about it. Money is not the right reason. The presumed “Cool” quotient attached to being an entrepreneur is not the right reason. Try being the change you wish to see in this world. Build something that can bring about a change in the lives of people.
