Company Detail:
They Shape's mission to change HOW and WHY people exercise. HOW: redefining the standard from "calories burned" to movement and sustainable long term fitness. WHY: to cultivate self-acceptance and appreciation while they shift the value system from a culture obsessed with body image and a number on the scale.
Unique Selling Proposition or Competitive Advantage:
They have a technology driven product that can offer someone real time customization for an at home workout. Their brand focuses on the whole person and isn't just a workout; they acknowledge the emotional, psychological, and social/cultural parts that go into a human feeling well in their body.
Challenges Faced During the Journey:
She used to run a successful fitness company that was rooted in body transformation. She watched person after person lose weight and still feel terrible about themselves. she woke up to a bigger problem and new this industry needed change. They have faced many challenges along the way. Challenges ranging from people in their industry telling us that they won't be able to sell their product because it's not sexy, all the way to building a technology that worked and finding investors who wanted to support their mission. She (and my co-founder) have been self-financing a lot of this endeavor and she has really had to trust this process and know that their mission and vision will find a path.
Advice for Women Entrepreneurs:
Listen to the deeper part of yourself that is connected to your cause. Attempt to move mountains even when it doesn't seem possible. It's okay to go against the grain and pave a new path. We NEED more women to do this.
