Anuraag S, Founder at Pencilbox

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business?

Anuraag S: I had education in various parts of the country as my father was in Indian Army. The colourful life provided under the Army background, drew me to colours & their various combinations. It was organized & a disciplined life. Visit to various places gave me a good exposure to my visual traits. My father wanted me to be an Army Officer but I found 7.62mm Rifle too heavy to carry, so I chose HB pencil, few crayons and stationery which I use to keep in a Pencilbox.

Later, I realized that Pencilbox is a great tool to initiate any Creative work. A pencil lets us draw our imagination on paper, a sharpener keeps on sharpening our ideas, an eraser lets us modify our work till the time it is perfectly done, a scale (ruler) lets us measure the success of our design and with all this there will me one more element (like Crayons in my case) which will define the persona of that person. And thus, we at Pencilbox also carry our client’s personality constantly in our minds to deliver their passion. The idea behind starting Pencilbox as a design consultancy emerged as a passion to provide creative solutions for any problem.

Great Companies: What are the various Services provided by Pencilbox

From creating quickly and unconventional Window Displays and Facades to proving complete solutions for Visual Merchandising for a retail store. We also have a very unique service of overnight space transformation for retail stores or small offices by saving a lot or time and money.

Great Companies: What makes Pencilbox unique from hundreds of other similar service providers?

Anuraag S: We believe that we have 3 super-powers which are Bisociation, ERx2 Model and creating multi-sensory experience, and come up with most unconventional ideas and solutions.

We also understand the requirement of our clients through our defined design guideline and encourage them to share every detail by keeping their final objective in mind.

Our profound design process called 5D (Discover, Design, Develop, Deploy and Determine) makes sure that the end objective is well achieved by measuring its workability, ROI and effectiveness.

Our every work offers substantial uniqueness which enables us to delight our clientele base constantly and make a mark as we make is simple, but significant.

Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face?

Anuraag S: As a creative design agency, the biggest challenge we face is to convince client to come out of their comfort zone of regular patterns and accept something new and bold which can create an impact. Due to this, we find it difficult to leverage our expertise to its fullest potential. People do want ‘new ideas’ or ‘new ways to approach a problem’ but at the same time they don’t wish to step out of their comfort zone.

Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for Pencilbox?

Anuraag S: The covid has really blurred the boundaries of global outreach and ways of working due to which we could expand our services globally in countries like Australia, USA and Canada. Our future plan is to keep expanding the horizon of our services and creativity and offer more global portfolio to our clients in terms of our exposure, market insights and trends. We would also like to venture in to tech-based solutions for design and visual merchandising.

Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

Anuraag S: Before you start your entrepreneur journey, ask yourself ‘Why you want to do it?’. Write down your 20 Personal ‘WHYs’ and align them with your Professional ‘WHYs’ and then follow your goals with utmost discipline. You need a right combination of motivation and discipline to achieve heights.
