Anand Mayee, Founder at Nayab Stores Private Limited

Great Companies: How did you get your idea or concept for the business?

Anand Mayee: My life can be summed up as grabbing the opportunities at the right time. I started my career as a teacher in order to meet ends and I had no idea about the Textile business or Silk or Linen. One day while at school, one of the parents asked me if I would be interested in modelling for their saree business and thinking of it as an opportunity, I agreed. When I started modelling for their business, I came across the purity of the Fabrics and how to recognise them. This led me to meet the manufacturers and understand about the making of Silk and Linen in Bhagalpur. I researched about the business and its requirements among people through proper market research and travelling to different locations understanding how retailers are charging unbelievable amount for the sarees and earning profits just using the name of the Bhagalpuri Silk. This embarked the idea of starting the business.

Great Companies: What are the various Services provided by Nayab Stores Private Limited?

Anand Mayee: Nayab Stores have come a long way within a few years of its commencement. Started off as a Trader, today Nayab Stores manufacturers the Sarees we sell to the customers, ensuring the best price to them. We understood the importance of customizations for the customers and started our tailoring services thus designing the best designs for every customer. We also have our Mobile Applications and Website for our customers to browse. We have also planned a ton of features and services for our customers in the coming years which will make their life easier when it comes to Fashion.

Great Companies: What makes Nayab Stores Private Limited different from hundreds of other Textile firms?

Anand Mayee: What makes us different from others is a subjective question. But to put it in context, we could claim that we provide the best quality products for our customers, but these claims could be made by anyone.

But we live by the fact that our products are rigorously tested at all stages to ensure quality. To understand the quality of our Nayab Stores, one needs to feel it when they wear it. Every Saree made at our centres are well planned out with every product designed with a story in mind. They embody the journey of a woman in her struggles, her triumphs, and her power.

Other Textile Firms sells sarees as it has huge margins, but we have kept our margins to the levels which are affordable for the customers. We believe that price should not the deciding factor while buying Saree. It should be Quality.

Great Companies: What are the struggles and challenges you face?

Anand Mayee: Struggles and challenges are a part of life now as they no more surprise me. Even today there are people who refuse to acknowledge a woman as a business owner, and they try find the man-in-charge. Whenever I go for Exhibitions or Photoshoots, they think of me as a front and there would be someone coming to claim my business. When I try to hire someone, they feel the same thing as well. All I do, is that I refuse to work with such people who just cannot fathom a girl as a business owner. The Second Biggest challenge that we face is the friction in the manufacturing. Whenever there is a big order I have to stay on course with every step of manufacturing and packaging so that the order is fulfilled without any factor creating any issue at any stage.

Great Companies: How do you plan to grow in the future? What does 5 years down the line look like for Nayab Stores Private Limited?

Anand Mayee: With the initial years gone. Nayab Stores aims at growing exponentially by exploring ideas and testing them in real life scenario as part of our Market Research. As a business, we aim to open more physical outlets as part of our Experience Stores where our best designs would come to life. We have always been service providers by giving unique experience with every product. And down the line in 5 years we aim at strengthening our base at that. There are several future plans which would very soon be brought to life for our customers.

Great Companies: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

Anand Mayee: Do not fear the circumstances or the shortcomings you have to start a business. Listing out the problems is a good thing as it allows you to be more informed about the future. But when you are about to make a new start, you have to take that leap of faith in yourself to make it big. The biggest thing in starting out is not just the risk, its about owning your decisions whatever it leads to.
